Have you ever wanted to blog about something but you just do not know how to say it clearly through writing. Or, you are so excited about the subject you just want to blabber through it and you know at the end it probably will not make any since?. . .Well tonight is one of those nights and one of those blogs so if you care to keep reading buckle up! My thoughts are random and skewed but this is a big part of who I am and who I am constantly working to become.
When I was a young woman, 16 or 17 years old, I attended a conference with my sister. There were many classes you could choose to attend but we chose a class I have not forgot, neither will I ever forget. The instructor shared a tip of which I follow every day and with which I want to share with you. . . .Her advise was to get up in the morning and spend all the time you need getting ready. BUT, once you are done getting ready you leave that mirror, you forget about yourself, and you go to work on others. Stop worrying about yourself and compliment somebody else, befriend somebody who needs your friendship, give service of any sort to those who stand in need. The rest of your day is to be spent in the service of others.
At that stage in my life I needed to hear that message. This was a time as a young woman I was starting to get into make-up, hair and stylish clothes. I had begun to think that these attributes determined who you were and I was constantly worrying about me. As I walked away from this conference something changed within me. While I still love stylish clothes, make-up, and doing hair that did not end up becoming the center of my life or my finest attribute. Each morning I take time to get ready. I get ready till the point I am comfortable. I look in the mirror one final time and then I forget about myself.
It was not easy to forget about myself at first. However, as I learned more of my identity - that I am a child of God, He loves me, He knows me by name, and He has a plan for me, did I begin to gain a tremendous amount of confidence and an eternal perspective. In the aid of this process I began to read my scriptures consistently and pray daily.
As I forgot about myself it began getting easier to find people who stood in need of help.
My whole purpose in this life is to become like my Savior, Jesus Christ and follow Him.
Every day during our Saviors ministry he healed, mourned, blessed, taught and visited others. He is charity. And he continues to bless us today with his grace. I know that the only way to true happiness is our pursuit to become like Him. To become like our Savior we must learn of Him and come to know Him. We can do these things by reading The Book of Mormon which is another testament of Jesus Christ. Also, we can read the bible. We can pray to him often. I know he wants us to become like Him, to learn of Him and come unto Him. He is the light, the truth and the life. He is our saving grace and our road to an eternal happiness.
